Chillingsworth

Nathaniel Hawthorne had a knack for picking the best names for his characters. Chillingsworth was the primary culprit for making life difficult for Dimmesdale and Hester in the Scarlet Letter. I had to do some serious research on the scenery for many of the scenes I depicted in this book, this one captures the sparse and humble beginnings of a settlers town. Note Chillingsworths coonskin hat and leather wrap.

Original: $350, small painting, acrylic on board.
